Maesteg and District Motor Club has once again raised a tremendous amount for the Wales Air Ambulance.
The lifesaving Charity was recently presented with a cheque for over £2,000 from the club members, which brings their total fundraising to an incredible £17,000.
Maesteg and District Motor Club is one of several motor clubs to organise and promote the TCS Plant Rally Challenge championship. It consists of 12 rallies run in Wales and England, in forestry and tarmacadam venues, where points are gained from the best seven scores.
The Championship was created back in 2013 specifically to help raise awareness and funds for Wales Air Ambulance.
Wales Air Ambulance volunteer Graham Hirst was delighted to be invited to the Maesteg and District Motor Club presentation evening, where he received their donation. The club’s members also enjoyed a visit to the Charity’s airbase.
Rally Challenge Co-ordinator Terry Frayne said: “The rallying community is highly supportive of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity as organisers, competitors, marshals and spectators are very aware of the vital support provided if needed, in what are often remote areas of Wales.
“As well as contributions to events, competitors quite often donate their prize money.
“We have again gained the backing of TCS Plant proprietor Phillip Turner to allow us to continue with our fundraising efforts. Phil is himself a seasoned rally driver and recently competed on the first round on the Epynt Military Ranges above Sennybridge.”
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
It is delivered via a unique third-sector and public-sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Christian Sullivan, the Charity’s South Wales Regional Fundraising Manager, said: “We are so grateful to Maesteg and District Motor Club for its continued support of our lifesaving Charity. They’ve raised over £2,000 through their rally events, and in total donated £17,000 for our all-Wales Charity, which is incredible.
“Without events like this, we would not be able to continue to do what we do. Every pound raised helps save lives across Wales. Thank you to all the organisers, competitors, marshals and spectators for playing their part.”
If you are interested in any aspect of motor rallying, the club meet at the Green Acre Motel, Cornelly on the first Tuesday of every month at 8pm. Newcomers are always made welcome.
