Gifts in Wills

Let your legacy live on, through saving the life of another…

Making a Will makes a tough time slightly easier for those around you. We hope, that after caring for your loved ones, you will also think of us.

We rely on your support to raise £11.2 million every year to keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road. Gifts in Wills are a key source of income for us and have funded one of our four helicopters in the last twelve months.

By leaving a Gift to our charity you are enabling us to save lives. You are helping those in need when they need it the most, providing them with a future, what a legacy to leave.

You don’t have to tell us if you plan on leaving us a gift, but we’d love to say thank you and show you how your gift might be used. If you do decide to leave us a gift in your Will, we promise to use it considerately and effectively, ensuring that your legacy lives on.

We are very grateful for any gift we may receive which will enable us to continue saving lives across Wales.

If you already have a Will and would now like to leave a gift to our charity, then a codicil form is the easiest way to make these changes. A codicil is a short legal document that alters or adds to an existing Will.

Simply fill in the Codicil Form (by clicking the link below) in the presence of two witnesses (they must be adults and unrelated) to include a gift to The Welsh Air Ambulance Charitable Trust.

Inheritance tax benefits

Any gift left in a will to a registered UK charity is free from inheritance tax.

Inheritance tax is standardly charged at 40% on any estate worth more than £325,000. So, if the value of your estate is more than £325,000, a gift to charity could reduce the tax burden.

Also, if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, you will benefit from a lower inheritance tax rate of 36%.

See more information about inheritance tax on the gov.uk website.

Please note: Wales Air Ambulance cannot offer formal financial advice. We recommend seeking your own legal and financial advice to understand how this applies to your personal circumstances.

    Thank you

We have received your enquiry about Gifts in Wills. One of our team will be in touch soon.

    Questions you may have

Your Will is a legal document which specifies where and to who you wish your property and possessions to go to in the event of your death.

An executor is a person or institution who is responsible for making sure the instructions in your Will are carried out.

No matter the amount, big or small we appreciate every legacy we receive. Every amount helps to fund lifesaving missions.

There are three main ways to leave a legacy to a charity:

    1. A specific legacy, which is a particular item left to the charity such as a piece of jewellery or shares.
    2. A residuary legacy is what remains once all gifts have been handed out. You can leave a share of what is left or the whole amount.
    3. A pecuniary legacy is when you leave a set amount of money.

It is very important to remember when making your Will that it may need to be changed later on due to circumstances.

It is recommended to review your Will every five years or so, or after major life changes, such as marriage or divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild, moving house, your executor is no longer suitable, the value of your estate has changed.

To amend your Will, you will need to add a codicil which has been witnessed when signed.

If you decide not to leave a Will, the government will decide how your estate is divided. Whereas by creating a Will you provide your family and friends with your exact wishes on how you wish your estate to be distributed.

If you have any questions about the administration of the estate, please contact our Administration Team by email: legacyadmin@walesairambulance.com, or by phone on 0300 0152 999.

Yes, once we have received the gift, the Legacy Administration Team will send you a thank you letter and receipt acknowledging payment.
