Dormant Funds

Donate Today

Your donation could ensure that those in a life or limb-threatening situation receive advanced critical care wherever they are in Wales, giving them the best possible chance of survival. It could help to keep our helicopters in sky and rapid response vehicles on the road delivering the emergency department to the patient. Or the funds could be used to provide support to patients and their relatives after a sudden and traumatic, life-altering event.

As an all-Wales charity, we rely entirely on your generous donations to operate our service.

In June 2024, we attended our 50,000th mission. On 50,000 occasions, the medics on board our vehicles have been tasked to help someone in need.

We want to be there for people for years to come, and that is why we are so grateful to receive the support of donations from dormant funds. Help us to protect future generations, together we can serve the people of Wales, and save lives.

What are dormant funds?

A dormant asset is a financial product, such as a bank account, that has not been touched for a long time.

When a solicitors’ firm has a remaining client fund that they are unable to pay to the client, it is considered to be dormant. The company is permitted to withdraw those funds and donate them to a charity of their choice.

How to donate dormant funds in three steps:

For balances over £500 you will need to inform the SRA’s form to apply to withdraw funds from the client account – you can find this form at sra.org.uk. To donate individual account balances up to £500, this step is not needed and you can go straight to step two.

Phone our Fundraising Team on 0300 300 0062 or email legacy@walesiarambulance.com to tell us you have dormant funds to donate. We’ll send you an indemnity form together with our bank details.

Donate via bank transfer. Once we’ve received your donation you’ll get an acknowledgement from us, thanking you for your kind support.

Important information:

For balances up to £500

Firms can usually donate balances of £500 or less to charity without asking for approval from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), provided certain conditions, as set by the SRA, are met.

Please see Rule 5.1© of the Solicitors’ Account Rules for further details.

For balances over £500

For balances over £500, the SRA requires the withdrawal of residual client balances form to be completed and returned to: professional.ethics@sra.org.uk or Professional Ethics, SRA, The Cube, 199 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, B1 1RN or DX720293 Birmingham 47.

The SRA is the regulator for England and Wales only. Other rules will apply in other jurisdictions.
