St Peter’s Young Farmers Club has recently presented the Wales Air Ambulance with a cheque for £3,565 following its successful fundraising.
The club, which has been supporting the lifesaving charity since 2012, raised the funds by holding its first-ever tractor run and carol singing.
The festive tractor run saw 54 brightly decorated tractors setting off from Carmarthen mart for an 11-mile route, taking farming right into the town.
The popular fundraiser finished at the historic Boars Head, Carmarthen and raised £4,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance and St Peter’s Young Farmers Club.
A further £500 was raised through carol singing.
A proud Siôn Edwards, Chairman of St Peter’s Young Farmers Club, said: “It just goes to show how the farming community always turns out to support each other and good causes.”
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
A grateful Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager for the area gave the members a talk about how important the service is to the people of Wales, during the cheque presentation at Carmarthen Athletic Rugby Football Club.
Mike May, said: “It was wonderful to meet the members of St Peter’s Young Farmers Club. They raised a fantastic amount during the club’s first-ever tractor run and its carol singing. We’re extremely grateful to receive such great support from the young farmers. Thank you to everyone who played a part in raising funds for our lifesaving charity. You have all played a part in saving lives across Wales.
“Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £13 million every year to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. These funds will help us reach that target. Diolch yn fawr pawb.”
