Lamphey Women’s Institute has raised over £3,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance after a successful year of fundraising for the cause.
The ladies chose Wales Air Ambulance as its Charity of the Year for 2025-2026 and recently presented the lifesaving Charity with £3,750.
The members visited the Wales Air Ambulance’s headquarters in Dafen, where they were shown around the airbase by the Charity’s Mike May, Regional Fundraising Manager for the area.
Mike expressed his thanks to the group and spoke to them about the vital work of the Wales Air Ambulance. They also met Pilot James Gardiner who has happy to show them the helicopter and answer questions on the lifesaving service.
Throughout their fundraising year the group held a variety of different fundraisers including ‘Paws on the Beach’. The successful community dog event in Pembrokeshire fetched in £1,750. The event saw nearly 100 waggy tails get involved over the course of the event.
The Lamphey Women’s Institute also held coffee and cake events and raised funds through fundraising activities at various community shows in Pembrokeshire.
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third-sector and public-sector partnership.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for South West Wales, said: “A huge thank you to the ladies for raising an incredible £3,750 for our all-Wales Charity. We really appreciate their support of our service.
“It was lovely to welcome the ladies to our headquarters, where they had an opportunity to meet James, one of our pilots, and hear about the essential work of the Wales Air Ambulance.
“Throughout their fundraising year they held a variety of different fundraisers including the popular Paws on the Beach event, which was a wonderful day for dogs and owners.
“The Charity needs to raise £13 million every year to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Support from groups like Lamphey Women’s Institute will help us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. Thank you all so much.”
