Bryan’s kind gesture to lifesaving service to mark milestone birthday

5 minute read

A Powys great-grandfather has marked his 90th birthday by raising £490 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Bryan Jandrell requested donations to the lifesaving Charity in lieu of gifts to mark his special birthday.

Bryan, from Newtown, celebrated his milestone birthday on 19 July with a charity fundraiser at Hafan yr Afon.

Bryan, who has three daughters, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, was joined by 84 guests, who came as far as Somerset to celebrate with him.

The Wales Air Ambulance service is a consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatment to patients and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered through a unique partnership between the third sector and public sector.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Oli Sharman, Wales Air Ambulance Community Volunteer Coordinator, recently met Bryan and was presented with the £490 donation. Oli wished Bryan a happy birthday and thanked him for his support of the Wales Air Ambulance.

Oli Sharman said: “It was lovely to meet Bryan, who recently celebrated his special 90th birthday. Bryan marked his milestone birthday in a wonderful way, raising funds for our essential service. Asking for donations instead of gifts shows what a kind-hearted man he is. It sounds like Bryan, his family and friends all enjoyed a wonderful evening getting together and celebrating his birthday.

“We really appreciate the fact that Bryan wanted to help others as he marked his 90th birthday.

“Thank you to everyone for giving donations instead of gifts to mark Bryan’s 90th birthday. You’re all helping save lives across Wales and ensuring we can be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. Diolch yn fawr.”
