Fundraiser heats up with Charity’s firewalks

5 minute read

Are you a brave ‘sole’, who would like to take part in a heated fundraiser for a lifesaving service? If so, the Wales Air Ambulance’s Firewalks will be perfect for you.

The firewalk is a sponsored walk with a difference – it might be the shortest and hottest walk you’d take but it takes strength of mind to conquer your fears and complete the challenge.

Will you embrace the challenge of walking barefoot over hot coals for the Wales Air Ambulance and help them raise vital funds? To celebrate 25 years of Wales Air Ambulance, the Charity is challenging you to do something unforgettable.

This is the second year that the Charity has held a firewalk fundraiser. Following the success of last year’s event, which was held at Broughton and Bretton Community Centre, Broughton, Flintshire, the Charity has set up more locations for people to attend.

This year’s fiery events will take place at Rhyl Rugby Club on Thursday 2 July and at Moody Meadows, Aberaeron on Friday 10 July. Both events will take place between 6pm-10pm.

Each location promises an electrifying atmosphere, incredible support, and a night you’ll never forget.

Have you got the mindset to walk barefoot across 5 metres of burning wood embers, reaching temperatures of up to 800°C. There are no tricks, no special effect – just you, the fire, and an overwhelming sense of achievement when you reach the other side.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to take part in one of our iconic Firewalks across Wales and prove that courage can change lives. For more information on how to sign up visit https://firewalks.walesairambulance.com/en/

Everyone taking part in the fiery evening event must be 18 and over. It costs £20 to enter and you pledge to raise £100, prior to the event, for the all-Wales lifesaving service.

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £13 million every ensure to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Gail Windley, the Charity’s Event’s and Partnership Fundraiser said: “We’re delighted to be launching our firewalks this year on our special 25th anniversary year. Fundraisers will take on the ultimate challenge of walking over hot coals to helps save lives across Wales. This is a wonderful challenge aimed at all physical abilities and one that needs some courage.

“Walkers don’t need any previous experience to take part in the firewalk, as all the training will be provided on the day. We want to reiterate that this is not an activity to be tried at home and should only be done during a professionally organised event.

“The Charity relies on donations to continue to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Fundraising events, like the firewalks, will help to continue this lifesaving service for the people of Wales. It will be an unforgettable day for the participants and their supporters. Why not sign up and make a lifesaving difference.”

Walkers will receive a briefing from an expert prior to the challenge. Participants are not to allowed to drink alcohol before the event.
