Members of Milford Haven Youth Council have set themselves the challenge of rowing the equivalent distance from Milford Haven to Pen y Fan in aid of charity.
Taking place overnight at Milford Youth Centre on 23 July, the event will raise funds for the lifesaving work of Wales Air Ambulance while promoting teamwork, resilience, wellbeing and positive opportunities for young people.
Next week around eight members of Milford Youth Council, aged between 11 and 17, will take part in the challenge.
The fundraiser follows a similar challenge to last year, when members rowed the equivalent distance to Ireland and raised more than £700 for local charity, Sandy Bear.
This year the council are raising funds for the all-Wales Charity. Since 2001, Wales Air Ambulance has carried out more than 57,000 missions across Wales.
The Council said: “The group are excited about taking part and are fully committed to making the event a success. As well as raising funds for a fantastic cause, the challenge will provide opportunities for young people to build teamwork, resilience, determination, and confidence as they work together towards a shared goal.
“The Welsh Air Ambulance was chosen by the young people because of the vital support and lifesaving care the charity provides to communities across Wales.
“The Charity runs solely on donations. They’ve done a lot to protect people in our area and it’s important that charities like this continue to receive support.”
The service is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatment to patients and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered through a unique partnership between the third sector and public sector.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Mike May, Regional Fundraising Manager for the Wales Air Ambulance, said: “Good luck to the members of Milford Haven Youth Council who will take on this huge challenge throughout the night in aid of our 24/7 Charity.
“We are delighted our Charity was chosen to benefit from this fundraiser and we wish all the members good luck with the challenge.
“Wales Air Ambulance relies on public donations to raise £13 million every year to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Fundraisers, like this one, will help us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. Thank you to everyone who will be taking part or supporting the members on the night.”
