Transport for Wales raises over £14,000 for Wales Air Ambulance during a two-year Charity Partnership

Staff at the public transport service provider chose to fundraise for the lifesaving service between 2023/24 after taking part in a company poll.

It employs 4,000 people in Wales and the borders.

Emily Harris, Transport for Wales said: “We want to ensure we’re supporting charities that hold meaning or personal significance for our colleagues.

“Hundreds of colleagues across the organisation submit their choices, along with a reason why they feel strongly about their chosen charity.”

She continued: “We frequently receive very moving stories. We then whittle the list to a short list of charities who received the most votes.

“Colleagues then get to vote on their final choice of charity.

“We allow colleagues to make an informed decision on this vote by providing more information about the charities, as well as stories our colleagues have shared (if they are comfortable doing so).”

She added: “The year Wales Air Ambulance won, we had 60 different charity nominations and received 724 votes from colleagues across the organisation.

“Wales Air Ambulance took the win with 265 votes! Clearly a charity very close to many of our colleagues’ hearts.”

The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Phae Jones, Director of Income Generation for Wales Air Ambulance said: “We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the whole Transport for Wales team for their support throughout 2023-2025.

“We have had a wonderful twenty-four months working in partnership with their incredible team. It was quite spectacular to see the unveiling of the train livery featuring our Charity logo.

“We were truly touched and are grateful for the platform enabling train passengers and those waiting at stations across Wales to learn more about what we do.”

She added: “It’s has been very special to see so many employees taking part in events to help fundraise for us.

“Every pound raised, really makes a difference and helps save lives.”
