A successful ‘Coffee and Cake’ morning in aid of a lifesaving charity has raised £300.

The event, which was held at Lanelly House, in Llanelli, was organised by Christine Clarke, who teaches Tai Chi at the venue.

Christine was joined by many of her Tai Chi members, as well as friends, guests, and representatives of the Llanelli Town Council committee.

In attendance was The Mayor of Llanelli Councillor John Prosser, his Consort Councillor Suzy Curry, Deputy Mayor of Llanelli Councillor Shaun Greaney and Consort Melanie Greaney.

Guests were treated to a variety of beautiful cakes, including Victoria sponge and chocolate fudge cake.

The Charity representatives, Mike May and Christian Sullivan were delighted to attend the popular event.

The Charity’s Regional Fundraising Manager, Mike May, gave a talk on how important fundraisers like ‘Coffee and Cake’ are to the Charity. He also gave an insight on how the Charity has evolved over the years.

Wales Air Ambulance’s much-loved Coffee and Cake fundraiser has been ongoing through the month of March with events taking place across the country.

The Charity ‘kneaded’ the public’s support and Christine Clarke was happy to hold her own event.

‘Coffee and Cake’ coincides with the Charity’s 24th anniversary, which was on Saturday 1 March, St David’s Day.

The ‘Coffee and Cake’ celebrations raise funds to help the Charity provide lifesaving critical care across Wales, wherever and whenever it is needed.  Every year, Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Organiser Christine Clarke was delighted with the turnout, she said: “I support the Wales Air Ambulance every month and when I knew there was a Coffee and Cake fundraiser for the Charity’s anniversary, I wanted to do something.

“It was a fantastic event, there was so many people here chatting away, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was a really good day.

“I’d like to thank everybody for coming, the council, and everybody from my Tai Chi groups and guests. It has been a really successful day, so thank you everybody.”

The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Guest Susan Morgan, from Llanelli, said: “It was an absolutely wonderful and relaxed event. It was very well organised. I wanted to support the Wales Air Ambulance because the Charity is a lifesaver and we’re privileged to have it in Llanelli. It was lovely to hear about the Charity from Mike May’s talk.”

Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for west Wales, Mike May said: “Christine organised a wonderful ‘Coffee and Cake’ which was enjoyed by us all. The cakes were delicious and there were wonderful raffle prizes too. ‘Coffee and Cake’ is a wonderful way to mark our 24th birthday, whilst raising funds for our all-Wales Charity.

“Fundraisers, like Christine’s, will ensure we continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us the most. Thank you so much to everyone who organised the event at Llanelly House or attended it.”
