Bluestone Charity Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet and Family Dog Show raised a fantastic £1,140 for a lifesaving charity.
The popular annual show raised much-needed funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Rebecca Woods and a small team organise the show each year in Pembrokeshire, which took place between Saturday 31 May – Sunday 1 June at the Snooty Fox, Martletwy, SA67 8AD.
Dog owners competed for prizes including £100 for each show champion, £50 to each show champion of family and KC and Pick and Mix. Major qualifiers are also available.
There were some very generous exhibitors in the family and KC breeds show who were entering every possible class.
There were stalls and a raffle, as well as food, refreshments, and a licensed bar available.
Organiser Rebecca Woods, who was particularly looking forward to hosting the ‘Best of the West Championship’, said: “Wow, what a weekend! It was a fantastic turnout of dogs for our first Best of the West Championship. They were really tough decisions for the judges who all did an amazing job.
“Thank you all our judges, stewards, helpers, donators and sponsors. All of them made the show the success it was and congratulations to all our winners and champions.
“I’m super pleased that our Charity donation is £1,114. Thank you so much to everybody for their help.”
The charities that benefit from the dog show each year are chosen by the team, and then the final decision is put to the public vote via their Facebook page. This year the all-Wales lifesaving Charity was chosen after receiving 77% of the public votes.
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Mike May, West Wales Regional Fundraising Manager for Wales Air Ambulance said: “Thank you to the organiser and everyone who helped make the popular dog show a success. There was a variety of different categories for people to enter and a lot for families to do. Together everyone raised an incredible amount of £1,140 for the Wales Air Ambulance. The charity dog show is always a great success and a wonderful way to raise funds for good causes, the show is a credit to the organisers.
“Every penny raised makes a lifesaving difference. Fundraisers, like this one, will help us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. You’ve all played a part in saving lives across the country.”
This year’s show follows the success of previous shows, including the 2022 show which raised over £1,200 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital.
