Merched y Wawr, Carmarthen, has continued its support of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity by donating a further £750 to its lifesaving cause.
The funds were raised during a Plygain’ Service held at Heol Awst Chapel, Carmarthen. Donations included £100 from the Mayor of Carmarthen, £57 from Cor Seingar, Capel Babell Zion
Newydd and £563 from AT & FO Williams.
Merched y Wawr, which has 53 branches across Wales, has chosen the Wales Air Ambulance as its Charity of the Year, and have now raised a grand total of £14,000.
Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for west Wales, was delighted to be presented a cheque of £750 from Glenys Thomas, Meinir Hughes Griffiths, treasurer Olga Williams and Angharad Jones at the Mudiad’s headquarters in Carmarthen.
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Mike May said: “The support we have received from Merched y Wawr is incredible. The local branches all join forces and in total have raised a fantastic £14,000 for our Charity. It was wonderful to meet the ladies during the cheque presentation. Thank you to Merched y Wawr, you have all played a part in saving lives across Wales.
“The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road. Fundraisers, like this one, will help us to reach that yearly target. Diolch yn fawr, pawb.”
