A remembrance charity day has raised an incredible £21,000 for good causes in memory of Christine Bowen.

The successful day was organised by Christine’s husband, Emyr, and was held at their Llandissilio Holiday Park.

Christine passed away last year and was a keen supporter of the Wales Air Ambulance. The charity was one of three causes that the event raised funds for. The other two causes to benefit from the remembrance charity day were Crymych Fire Station and for Glangwili Intensive Care Unit. They each received £7,000.

In Christine’s honour the holiday park residents, staff and guests came together to organise a fun filled day for the village and residents.

There was something for everyone to enjoy on the day including bouncy castles, cakes, sweets and book stalls, as well as food vans.

The funds were raised by donations on the day, as well as a successful raffle and auction. The auction alone raised £12,000.

There were many fun parts of the day, which included guessing how many balloons were in a rally car, and families had the chance to guess the name of the sheep and octopus.

Emyr said: “It was a really good day, everyone pulled together. It was so successful that people in the village have asked can we do another next year, which I’m hoping to do.

“I’d like to thank the community and residents on the park, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you all. Every resident wanted to help with the charity day.

“If Christine was here, she wouldn’t have believed that so many people came out for her charity day.”

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated air ambulance crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

A grateful Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager, said: “Thank you so much to Emyr and everyone at Llandissilio Holiday Park, who organised a wonderful charity day in memory of Christine. It was a lovely opportunity for the residents of the caravan park to get together and remember Christine. You should all be extremely proud of how much was raised in memory of Christine.

“Thank you to everyone who played a part in organising this event or attending the event to help make it a huge success for the three important causes. You’ve raised an incredible £21,000 and should be very proud. The Wales Air Ambulance really appreciates your support.”
