Help Wales Air Ambulance Win £10,000 in Selco Community Heroes Awards

5 minute read

Wales Air Ambulance has been named as one of ten finalists in the Selco Community Heroes campaign and is in the running for the top prize of £10,000.

As always, the Charity wouldn’t exist without the support of its wonderful supporters, volunteers and staff, now we are calling on your help to vote for us.

Nina Rice, Wales Air Ambulance’s Head of Fundraising – High Value Partnerships, said: “The service has changed and grown dramatically since it began, we now have four helicopters at four different airbases and eight rapid response vehicles operating across Wales. If we win the prize money, our community will be safe in the knowledge that we will be able to continue to deliver lifesaving emergency care wherever and whenever needed.

“Winning £10,000 would make a huge difference to our Charity, our staff and ultimately, our patients. A vote for our Charity means helping to save lives in Wales, 365 days a year, both day and night.”

The Selco Community Heroes campaign celebrates the incredible work carried out by organisations across the country, with a total prize fund of £57,500 this year, nearly five times that of the previous years.

After winning £1,000 in the regional voting round of the campaign, the Charity used the vital funds to make improvements to the accommodation and welfare areas at the Cardiff airbase.

Nina said: “We still have a way to go in renovating and upgrading the space. The funding has provided the operational team with a well-regulated room to rest in at the end of their shift, it’s so beneficial for the team to be able to recuperate and be ready for their next mission.”

The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third-sector and public-sector partnership.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £13 million required every year to keep its helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency critical care.

The Charity will now go forward as a finalist competing for top prizes of £10,000, £5,000 and £2,500.

Simon Humpage, Head of Multi Channel Marketing at Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We are all very inspired by the lifesaving service the Wales Air Ambulance carry out to support their community, it’s an honour to be able to support such an important cause.”

You can vote for the Charity until 14 December and the winner will be announced in January 2026.
