A young cyclist has presented the Wales Air Ambulance with £718 following his successful month-long cycling challenge.

Finley Kivell, a pupil at Llangynidr Primary School, was invited to the Wales Air Ambulance Abergavenny Charity shop where he was delighted to present the shop manager Liz Price, with the money that he raised.

Each morning after breakfast, Finley, 11, cycled 10 kilometres every day using rollers in his garage.

The determined schoolboy smashed his original target of 280 kilometres, during the month of February, by cycling an incredible 400 kilometres.

Reflecting on his fundraising challenge, Finley said: “I wanted to do something really special for the Wales Air Ambulance. I love cycling and thought it would be a good way to raise as much money as I could.”

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third-sector and public-sector partnership.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Christian Sullivan, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager said: “A huge congratulations to Finley on completing his challenge. What an achievement at just 11-years-old. Finley even went beyond his target by adding extra laps, which is amazing.

“Finley and his family must be extremely proud of his fundraising; he has raised an incredible amount for the Wales Air Ambulance.

“Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £13 million every year to keep our helicopters flying and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Fundraisers, like Finley’s, will help us continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. Finley has played a special part in saving lives across the country. Thank you so much!”
