A group of men will take on a 24-hour Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance after the Charity’s medics fought to save their friend’s life.
Their Three Peaks Challenge in memory of Duncan Powell, who tragically lost his life in a motocross accident, has already raised over £5,400 for the all-Wales Charity.
Duncan’s friend Robbie Steele, and 12 other friends, will start their fundraising on 11 July in the hope of raising £35,000 in Duncan’s name. The challenge will see them hiking Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon all within 24 hours!
Robbie said: “Duncan was an incredible friend, who was full of life, energy, and passion for motocross. He was also a talented mechanic, always the first to offer help, whether fixing a car, a lorry or lending a hand to someone in need.
“Above all, Duncan was a devoted husband and a loving father, leaving behind his beautiful wife, Tasmin, and three wonderful children. His kindness, generosity, and infectious spirit touched so many lives, and we want to honour him in a way that reflects his giving nature.”

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.
The ‘close-knit crew’, from Knighton, have been keeping each other motivated and up-to-date with their training via a group chat. Robbie said the training is ‘going great’ and he is feeling confident that not only will they ‘smash the challenge’, but they’ll do it in a ‘solid time’ too.
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership.
While the Charity needs to raise funds to maintain the helicopter and rapid response vehicle operation, the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
Reflecting on the incredible amount already raised for the Wales Air Ambulance, Robbie said: “We’re honestly blown away by the amount raised so far, over £5,400 already is incredible, and we’re so grateful for everyone who’s supported us. The goal is to hit £35,000, which is £1,000 for every year since Duncan was born, and that makes it feel even more meaningful.
“It’s amazing to see how many people have come together to honour his memory and support such an important cause. It just shows how much Duncan meant to people, and how valued the Wales Air Ambulance service really is.”
As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated Wales Air Ambulance crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Robbie added: “The Wales Air Ambulance is an absolutely vital service. Sadly, Duncan didn’t make it, but knowing they were there shows just how crucial their role is.
“They give people the best possible chance in the worst situations. We’re proud to be raising money for a service that saves lives every single day.”
Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for mid Wales, Kate Thomas, said: “What an incredible way to remember Duncan, by having 19 friends take on the Three Peaks Challenge in just 24 hours. Duncan sounded like a wonderful family man and friend.
“Please show your support to the men and help them reach their £35,000 target. Those taking part know first-hand how important our service is to the people of Wales.
“They’ve so far raised an amazing amount for our all-Wales Charity. Thank you for raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance, we are really touched and appreciate your efforts. Good luck with your challenge!”
The men taking on the Three Peaks Challenge are; Robbie Steele, Adam Worton, Terry Whitehouse, George Davies, Sam Deluca, Jack Weston, Dale Morgan, Tom Bright, Josh Hoare, Shane Sutton, Dean Roberts, Luke Boundford and Liam Jones.
