The Wales Air Ambulance is delighted that Wonderwool Wales will continue its charity partnership this year.
The award-winning event which is held every April at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, first named the lifesaving service as its Charity partner back in 2011.
Last year Wonderwool Wales successfully raised an incredible £5,382 and since the partnership, they’ve raised £12,300. This year’s show will take place on Saturday 25 April and Sunday 26 April.
This year is a special time for the Wonderwool Wales and the Wales Air Ambulance; Wonderwool Wales will be celebrating its 20th anniversary of the show, and the Charity will be celebrating its 25th birthday.
Wonderwool Wales is the premier Wool, Natural Fibre & Textile Festival in Wales & the UK, its director Chrissie Menzies, said: “Wonderwool Wales is pleased to be able to support the Wales Air Ambulance again this year through various activities over our show weekend. 2026 sees us celebrating our 20th anniversary show and we are looking forward to welcoming our visitors and exhibitors to our milestone show, and hope to raise even more for this essential charity.”
Wonderwool Wales has become the ‘go to’ for crafters across the UK & abroad. It was awarded the Best Event in the Mid Wales Tourism Awards 2019/20 and has also been highly commended several years running in the Let’s Knit British Knitting and Crochet Awards.
The event was first held in 2006 to promote the market for Welsh wool and add value to product for small wool and fibre producers in Wales. The festival celebrates the green credentials of Welsh wool and its versatility as a material for creative crafts, designer clothes, home furnishings and more.
Also supporting the Charity yearly are the crafters called ‘The Ravelers’, which consist of Eve, Angela and Mandy, who all live around the country and travel hundreds of miles each year to have a stand at Wonderwool Wales.
They’ve raised an incredible £17,000 for the lifesaving 24/7 service since 2014.
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third-sector and public-sector partnership.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency critical care.
Kate Thomas, Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager for mid Wales, said: “I want to extend a huge thankyou to the incredible Wonderwool Wales team for all they do to support our Charity, especially the show’s organiser Chrissie Menzies for again choosing the Wales Air Ambulance as its charity partner.
“They have continued to support us as their Charity partner since 2011 and have been fundraising for us ever since, which is incredible. A special thank you goes to all the crafters and supporters that support the Wales Air ambulance, including The Ravelers, who have raised £17,000 for us.
“The Wales Air Ambulance Charity needs to raise a significant amount of money every year to enable us to continue to be there for you when you need us most. We are delighted that once again Wonderwool Wales has chosen the Wales Air Ambulance as its charity partner. The support from the annual show has helped saved many lives across Wales, for which we are really grateful.”
