A cheque for £1,100 has been presented to the Wales Air Ambulance by a history-making club captain.

Celia Bartlett was made the first female captain of Newport Links Golf Club last year.

During her year as club captain she decided to raise money for Wales’ lifesaving Charity the Wales Air Ambulance.

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every ensure it provides its 24/7 care across Wales.

Celia said: “This is the only air ambulance charity, based in and dedicated to, the people of Wales.

“They rely entirely on charitable donations every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.”

Throughout Celia’s year as club captain, at Newport Links she held various events, competitions and raffles to raise the money.

Celia and club members recently presented a cheque for £1,100 to Mike May, the Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for Pembrokeshire.

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Mike May was delighted to recently meet Celia and the golfers, he said: “Thank you so much to Celia and the golfers for raising an incredible £1,100 for our lifesaving service. We couldn’t provide our pre-hospital care without the support of clubs, like these. We really do appreciate your efforts.

“A huge thank you to everyone who supported Celia in her fundraising for the Wales Air Ambulance.”

There are many events being organised by Newport Links, throughout this year to mark its centenary by this year’s captain Bernard Davies.
