Colleagues from a North Wales company held a successful coffee and cake fundraiser to help celebrate the Wales Air Ambulance’s 25th anniversary.
Lyan Packaging Supplies has supported the all-Wales Charity for a number of years including hiking Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) and this year once again the team took part in the Charity’s ‘Coffee and Cake’ event. This latest fundraiser raised £1,040 for the Charity.
‘Coffee and Cake’, is an event which encourages the Charity’s supporters to ‘get together’ and host their very own Coffee and Cake party on behalf of the lifesaving service.
Lyan Packaging Supplies staff were involved in the cake sale, which saw local customers, suppliers and family members being invited to attend the ‘Coffee and Cake’ morning.
Alex Jackson, Lyan Packaging Supplies Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We hosted a cake and coffee event for the first time a few years ago, we all loved it and have hosted one a year since. It’s important to us that we have a positive impact not only on our staff, but also on our local community, suppliers, and customers. The coffee and cake event is a great reflection of this, bringing people together in a positive way, and creating a sense of community that extends beyond the workplace.
“Over the course of the morning, we had about 50 people attending. This year we extended the invitation to the families of staff which helped make the event feel more inclusive and community focused.
“We’re a business based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate and it’s a great excuse to catchup with a few of our neighbours, as well as our local customers and suppliers. A lot of the team get involved with the baking and general organisation. It was a brilliant turnout and a lot of fun to host!”
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.
It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector Partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
As a pan-Wales service, the dedicated air ambulance crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Since the company has supported the Wales Air Ambulance it has raised over £4,000 for the Charity.
Reflecting on the importance of the pan-Wales service, Alex added: “It is an incredibly important service, providing rapid, lifesaving medical care to people across Wales, particularly in rural or hard-to-reach areas. As a charity, their work relies heavily on the support of communities and events like this one. We hope that our relatively modest support of Wales Air Ambulance helps to ensure that they can continue delivering this essential care, when and where it’s needed most.
“We are extremely proud of the amount we have raised, and also incredibly grateful to everyone who took time out of their busy days to support the event, and for their generous donations too.”
The air and road operations are funded entirely by public donations, and the Charity needs to raise £13 million every year to keep the helicopters flying and its rapid response vehicles on the road.
Debra Sima, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for North East Wales is delighted with the continued support the Charity has received from the company.
She said: “Well done to everyone at Lyan Packaging Supplies who helped mark our special 25th milestone by holding a coffee and cake event. The coffee and cake event was a huge success, and everyone should be proud of themselves. The cakes looked delicious!
“Over the years the company has raised over £4,000, which is incredible. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our lifesaving service.
“Fundraisers like this, will enable us to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this fundraiser a success. You’re helping save lives across Wales.”
