Funeral Arrangements.

Funeral planning can start before the death has been registered and you can speak to a funeral director to begin making arrangements. Each funeral director will have their own company policies and procedures and will be more than happy to help you answer any questions you may have about their role and the services they offer.

Step-by-step guide to funeral arrangements in Wales

  1. Get the medical certificate & register the death
  2. Choose a funeral director (optional but helpful)
  3. Decide burial or cremation
  4. Plan the funeral service
  5. Check if there is a will or funeral plan
  6. Cost support (if needed)

Funerals can cost several thousands of pounds, but help is available. You may be eligible if you receive certain benefits (e.g., Universal Credit).

If no one can arrange or afford a funeral, the local council can provide a basic service.

  1. Notify organisations (“Tell Us Once” service)

When you register the death, you may be offered Tell Us Once, which informs:

HMRC

DWP

Passport Office

Local council services

This does not include home utilities, insurances etc only government departments. See check list at the end of this booklet.
