A West Wales coffee supplier has raised money for Wales Air Ambulance through the sale of its own branded Welsh caffeinated beverage.

Teifi Coffee, a charitable coffee retailer in Llandysul, was formed by entrepreneur Chris Snarski in 2018. With a background in business and a love of high-quality food and drink, Chris jumped at the opportunity to form his own coffee company.

Speaking about Teifi Coffee, Chris said: “The company was set up with the aim of not only providing tasty, fresh coffee to Welsh businesses and homes but to also have a strong community ethic by raising money for various charities at the same time.

“I very quickly decided that a generous figure of 50p per kilo would be a suitable rate. Although this may not sound very high, a busy café uses on average 15kg of coffee per week. This can translate then into quite a lucrative earning for nominated charities.”

Charitable causes were nominated by trade customers and the Wales Air Ambulance Charity is proving a popular choice amongst many stockists of the traditional Welsh brew.

One such trade customer which nominated Wales Air Ambulance was ‘Pethau Da’ in Carmarthen. Director of the café, Steve Ballett said: “We are very pleased to be able to support such an important charity through our arrangement with Teifi Coffee. ‘Pethau Da’ opened its doors on Mansel street in 2017 and we’re now open daily and on the weekends.

“We’re a local friendly Welsh company who relish in providing home-made food of the highest standard. Using local produce and ingredients we prepare everything here at the Café. It’s a great feeling to be able to give something back to the community and support Wales Air Ambulance with our donation of £271.32.”

Another trade customer that nominated Wales Air Ambulance was Xcel Bowl in Carmarthen. They’re efforts also helped raise a further £290.23.

In addition to the 50p per kilo donation, Teifi Coffee themselves also nominated Wales Air Ambulance as one of their ‘Teifi Ten’.

Chris said: “In addition to our trade customers, smaller packs also purchased from shops and businesses will contribute towards our ‘Teifi Ten’. These are ten charities, as nominated by us, who will each receive a share of the money raised from the sale of our coffee. We decided Wales Air Ambulance was a worthy recipient and are happy to be able to support them.”

Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager Rob Coles said: “We can’t begin to thank Chris at Teifi Coffee and everyone at ‘Pethau Da’ for their support. It’s fantastic to see locally brewed Welsh coffee supporting causes that directly benefit the people of our country. The generosity of all involved will ensure we can continue to attend lifesaving missions across Wales. We would also like to say thank you to other local businesses across South and Mid-Wales who sell the coffee and donate some of the proceeds to us.”
