The Charity would like to thank the Chief Ambulance Services Commissioner for Wales, and his team, for the work they have undertaken as part of their independent review of our medical partners, the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service. This vital process is focused entirely on service improvement.
Why is this Review so important?
The air ambulance service in Wales is proven to deliver the highest standard of lifesaving care. However, at present:
Lives are currently at threat, so it is vital to address the contradictory issues of unmet need and service underuse.
The EMRTS Service Review is independent and we have been respectful of that. Like the public, the Charity is a stakeholder and has no direct involvement in this independent process.
Throughout this process, we have said that we will ensure any independent recommendations put forward will see charitable donations used in the most effective, patient-focused way. This means saving as many lives across Wales as possible and, in doing so, making sure that no community is materially disadvantaged as a result of any changes.
If thorough and compelling evidence is presented in support of a service improvement reconfiguration, the Charity has a moral obligation to act.
We are currently reviewing the Commissioner’s recommendation and we await the final decision from the Emergency Ambulance Services Committee. You can read the Commissioner’s report via https://easc.nhs.wales/engagement/sdp/
We would like to thank you, our dedicated supporters, for the passion you have shown and your contribution to the Review process. Our commitment to you is unconditional and everlasting, and that will never change.
The aim is, and always will be, to deliver the best possible care, with the resources available to us, to people across Wales – wherever they are and whenever they need it.
We are a pan-Wales service. Our dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care. This would not be possible without the support of the people of Wales.
Over the past 23 years, you have put your trust in us. During that time, we have delivered the largest air ambulance service in the UK and one of the most medically advanced in the world.
We appeal for your trust once more as we work with our medical partners to further improve our lifesaving service for the benefit of everybody in Wales.
With your support, our Charity will be there for you and your community – now and always.
