Wales Air Ambulance has welcomed a new face to the fundraising team in Pembrokeshire.

Katie Thomas joins the charity taking over from Tony Key OBE who retired earlier this year.

Originally from Tenby, Katie attended Greenhill School before completing a degree and PGCE in History at Swansea. After six years of teaching, Katie decided to return to Pembrokeshire and embark on her next big challenge.

Since taking up the role in June 2018 Katie has hit the ground running by attending several events across the county. Speaking about her role Katie said: “It has been a busy first two months but thoroughly enjoyable. I’m really looking forward to getting to know our fantastic team of volunteers and getting out in the community with them to help spread the good word of Wales Air Ambulance.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has recently donated to us across Pembrokeshire. In July alone an incredible £8,000 was collected across the county, which will fund five lifesaving missions.”

Wales Air Ambulance fundraising manager, Mark Stevens said: “We would like to welcome Katie to the team and look forward to working with her. She is a fantastic addition and I have no doubt she will build on the success of her predecessor Tony.”

Katie’s focus will not only be to continue fundraising across Pembrokeshire but also to encourage the next generation of volunteers to join the charity. Talking about becoming a volunteer, Katie added: “We would love to increase the number of volunteers we have across the county who are the lifeblood of our fundraising. Volunteering for Wales Air Ambulance can be highly rewarding and a great platform for skills development. We have plenty of events coming up which will give people the opportunity to meet the team and learn more about the charity.

“On Friday, September 21st we have an exciting quiz night planned at the Narberth Rugby Club from 7pm. Many local businesses such as Folly Farm and Tooj have kindly donated fantastic raffle prizes for the event so we hope to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
