A successful ladies’ golf competition has raised an incredible £2,500 for two north Wales charities.

The charity competition at Caernarfon Golf Club was organised by current ladies’ captain, Iola Owen, in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance and Ty Gobaith.

Over 100 people took part in the event, which saw golfers travelling from as far a field as Manchester to compete in the charity competition.

The charity event received a lot of support from local businesses and people, who were happy to donate towards the good cause, sponsor the competition or donate a prize.

Wales Air Ambulance offers advanced critical care and is often described as a ‘Flying ED’. The on-board consultants and critical care practitioners are highly skilled and carry some of the most pioneering medical equipment in the world. They can deliver blood transfusions, administer anaesthesia and undertake emergency operations at the scene of the incident, before flying the patient directly to specialist care.

Now operational 24/7, the Charity needs to raise £8 million every year to keep the helicopters flying.

Reflecting on how much was raised on the day, Iola, who has been the ladies captain for two years, said: “I am proud, it was a fantastic day and everyone really enjoyed it. We had ladies from Manchester who took part – the Caernarfon Golf Club ladies travel to different courses and it was nice to see the ladies from Manchester competing. I was chuffed with the amount of money that has been raised. People are very kind, the local shops and people were happy to donate.”

After competing in the golf competition the competitors enjoyed a sit-down meal and a presentation of the prizes took place.

Alwyn Jones, Wales Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser, said: “Many thanks to Iola Owen, Ladies’ Captain at Caernarfon Golf Club for organising a special Charity fundraising competition, which raised £2,500 in total to share between two important charities. The fantastic golf competition had a great turnout and was enjoyed by everyone. The donation of £1,250 will help our medics be there for the people of Wales when they need our help. Diolch yn fawr, pawb.”

There are several ways that the public can continue to support the Wales Air Ambulance. These include online donations, signing up to the Charity’s Lifesaving Lottery or by coming up with their own innovative ways to fundraise at home. Further information can be found via www.walesairambulance.com
