Monmouthshire Building Society’s historical affinity savings account has raised over £24,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

During 2023 the account gave the account holder the opportunity to give to specific charities while saving money.

As well as raising funds for the lifesaving Charity, the building society raised £15,340 for Sparkle, the charity that supports children with disabilities and development difficulties in the Gwent area.

The Affinity Instant Savings account worked as a standard savings account, with interest paid to the saver. One percent of the balance was then donated to the affinity partners at the end of the financial year. Giving an alternative way to fundraise for a charity close to members hearts.

Whilst these accounts are not currently on sale, account holders are still able to pay into these accounts and is another way that the Society continues its commitment to helping its colleagues, members, and communities to thrive.

Gemma Bale, Head of Brand and Products at Monmouthshire Building Society said: “These accounts have been a fantastic way to raise money for some important local and Wales-wide charitable organisations. We are always looking at ways to support the communities we operate in with new initiatives that support local charities and groups and will continue to develop further opportunities in local communities.”

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly improve survival and early recovery.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

Laura Coyne, Community Fundraising Manager at Wales Air Ambulance said: “A huge thank you to Monmouthshire Building Society for its continued support of the Wales Air Ambulance. They’ve raised over £24,000 which is incredible!

“The Affinity Instant Savings Account is a great way for the public to support a charity of their own choice. A huge thank you to everyone who has chosen Wales Air Ambulance. Every one of you has played a part in helping the Wales Air Ambulance be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. This donation will keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Thank you all so much for helping to save lives.”
