A ten-year-old green-fingered schoolgirl has been potting and selling sunflowers in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance.

Every year kind-hearted Abigail Davies, from Haverfordwest, raises funds for charity and this year she has chosen the Wales Air Ambulance to benefit from the £160 that she has collected.

Abigail, who has lost count of how many sunflowers she has sold, but estimates it is well over 100, is very happy to have smashed her £150 target.

Speaking about why she picked the Wales Air Ambulance to fundraise for this year, Abigail said: “The charity was chosen because we have seen the helicopter fly over our house and we never know when we might need the Wales Air Ambulance.”

The Redhill Prep School pupil started fundraising four years ago and has previously offered her support to poorly children.

Her proud mum, Melanie, said: “In the past, Abby has supported the children’s ward in Carmarthen. Through her fundraising, she has bought hundreds of art and craft activities, teddies and portable DVD players – all items that the ward needed.

“I’m very proud of the young lady she is becoming. She certainly cares and even lockdown wasn’t going to stop her from selling her sunflowers.

“Family and friends are very proud and delighted to support Abby and receive their yearly sunflowers from her.”

Mark Stevens, the Charity’s Fundraising Manager, said: “A huge thank you and congratulations to Abby on exceeding her target and continuing to fundraise for good causes. We are delighted that she has chosen the Wales Air Ambulance this year and the money she’s raised will help keep our lifesaving service in the air.”

There are several ways that the public can continue to support the Wales Air Ambulance. These include online donations, signing up to the Charity’s Lifesaving Lottery or by coming up with their own innovative ways to fundraise at home – like Abigail.
