An ice hockey tournament in Cardiff is drawing in teams from all over the UK this weekend, to help raise thousands for charitable causes.

The UK Charity All-Star Weekend in the Ice Arena Wales on Friday July 28 to Sunday July 30 is an exciting weekend of sport, with ice hockey teams taking to the rink in aid of various charities.

The July event will mark the UK Charity All-Star’s 10th anniversary, as the annual competition raises sizeable donations every year for many different charities, whilst drawing in crowds to watch the weekend-long tournament.

Eight teams will skate around the ice, competing for the title whilst raising donations – with each team supporting a different charity.

Team Wales Air Ambulance will compete for the second year, helping to raise the donations needed to keep the charity’s four helicopters flying across Wales.

Last year, Team WAA raised over £8,000 for Wales Air Ambulance, enough to fund more than five of the Welsh helicopter charity’s missions across the country, each costing around £1,500 and funded entirely by charitable donations.

This year, Team WAA are aiming to raise even more for the charity, hoping to raise a total of £10,000 for Wales Air Ambulance through sponsorship and bucket collections.

Catrin Hall, Wales Air Ambulance Community Coordinator, said: “Last year team WAA raised an outstanding amount for Wales Air Ambulance, funding several lifesaving missions across Wales.

“We are incredibly grateful that we have been chosen again for the second year, and that Team WAA are aiming to raise even more for us.

“As a charity, we rely on kind donations to fund our operations, and we wouldn’t be able to complete our missions without the kind support we receive.”

Each team are raising charitable donations for their chosen charity, whilst playing to win against the ice hockey teams, travelling from all over the UK to take part in the tournament.

The weekend of charity ice hockey will take place from this Friday, with weekend tickets with access to all games costing only £5.

Catrin said: “By coming along to the UK Charity All-Star Weekend in Cardiff not only will you be able to help raise charitable donations for Welsh and UK-wide charities, but it is a great way to spend the weekend during the summer holidays!

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Team WAA for their support, and we wish them all the best in the UK Charity All-Star Weekend!”
