A Caldicot choir has raised £2,375 for the Wales Air Ambulance through a variety of events and virtual challenges.

Some of the fundraising events that Caldicot Male Voice Choir held included a 17 mile sponsored walk from Chepstow Castle to Goldcliff and golf days, which recently saw 30 players take part.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the choir’s charity events organiser, Tony Griffiths said that it has been difficult to organise events but nevertheless through golf days, walks, cycling and running events and even virtual challenges, this amount has been raised.

Caldicot Male Voice Choir are no strangers to raising money for charity, apart from their concerts, during the past 10 years they’ve raised around £50,000 for local and national charities through holding different events.

Wales Air Ambulance offers advanced critical care and is often described as a ‘Flying ED’. The on-board consultants and critical care practitioners are highly skilled and carry some of the most pioneering medical equipment in the world. They can deliver blood transfusions, administer anaesthesia and undertake emergency operations at the scene of the incident, before flying the patient directly to specialist care.

The choir were pleased to recently present the cheque to Wendy McManus the Charity’s Community Fundraiser. With Gift Aid the amount of £2,375 donated to the Charity will increase further.

She said: “A huge thank you to everyone in Caldicot Male Voice Choir for its fabulous fundraising in challenging times. The choir has raised an incredible £2,375 and we are very grateful for this donation. The Charity really does appreciate your support to keep our helicopters flying. By keeping our helicopters in the air we can continue to take the emergency department to the patient, saving time and saving lives throughout Wales.”

Next year Caldicot Male Voice Choir will be raising funds for ‘Ready Steady Go’ a local charity based in Undy which supports the needs of children suffering from autism.
