A team of insurance company staff who embarked on a Three Peaks challenge in 24-hours have raised £5,418 for Wales Air Ambulance.
Seventeen colleagues from Gallagher Insurance Risk Management and Brokering in Pontyclun climbed Yr Wyddfa, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan in August.
Group Manager Hywel Stevens said: “Our team’s connection to the charity is particularly meaningful.
“Gallagher’s local offices are close to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, where colleagues regularly see Wales Air Ambulance flying overhead.
“That visible reminder of the service’s work inspired the team to support a cause with a direct connection to their community.”
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £13 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency critical care.
The Gallagher Insurance Wales staff are ‘delighted’ to have completed the challenge in aid of Wales Air Ambulance.
Hywel said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took part and supported us throughout. We have raised an incredible £5,418 for the Charity.
“We are proud to support the vital work of Wales Air Ambulance in such a meaningful way.”
Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager Christian Sullivan said: “A huge congratulations to the Gallagher Insurance Risk Management and Brokering team for taking on such a big challenge in aid of our Charity.
“The average human would normally venture up one peak, at a time, but to do all three back-to-back in 24-hours takes real grit.
“We are grateful to everyone who took part and helped raise funds – every pound will make a lifesaving difference! Diolch yn fawr!”
