The annual Llandudno GoldWing Light Parade saw over 100 bikers descend on the promenade to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.

The event attracted two and three wheeled vehicles which competed for the best bike, trikes and lights categories. The winners were the judged by Llandudno Cllr Harry Saville and president of Llandudno Lions Norman Mylchreest.

This is the 9th time that the popular event has taken place and riders had to complete two circuits of the town before returning to the promenade.

As well as the daytime event, the public were treated to an evening parade and lights run.

Upon its return this year the Wales Air Ambulance was chosen as its charity of the year, the successful event also raised funds for North Wales Blood Bikes, Lions Charities and St John Ambulance, who were all visible on the day. The lifesaving charity will continue to be its charity of the year for the next two years.

The Llandudno GoldWing Light Parade took place on Saturday, 4 September under strict coronavirus rules and all bikes were cleansed during the exhibition.

Reflecting on the successful event, Dave Crowley, said: “Considering we are just getting over most of the Covid restrictions in North Wales, we are delighted with the turnout of our Goldwing Owners.

“Whilst the daytime event, was well attended by the general public, we feel that the crowds on the streets of Llandudno to watch our evening parade/light run, was at a record high, as the streets were absolutely thronging with the general public, which is the main aim of our event, as well as collecting donations for charity.

“We are pleased to be supporting the Welsh Air Ambulance for 2021 and intend to do so for the foreseeable future.”

Wales Air Ambulance has four aircraft based across Wales, in Dafen, Caernarfon, Welshpool and Cardiff. 

Now operational 24/7, the Charity needs to raise £8 million every year to keep the helicopters flying.  

Wales Air Ambulance community fundraiser Alwyn Jones said: “We’re delighted that this year the annual Llandudno GoldWing Light Parade returned to the town. As always, the event was a huge success and raised an incredible £3,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

“It is with heartfelt thanks to the committee and organisers of the GoldWing Light Parade for choosing the Wales Air Ambulance as their main Charity to fundraise for and also nominating us as their Charity of the Year for the next two years. The kind Wales Air Ambulance volunteers and I thoroughly enjoyed the day’s activities on Llandudno prom in such perfect weather.

Wales Air Ambulance offers advanced critical care and is often described as a ‘Flying ED’. The on-board consultants and critical care practitioners are highly skilled and carry some of the most pioneering medical equipment in the world. They can deliver blood transfusions, administer anaesthesia and undertake emergency operations at the scene of the incident, before flying the patient directly to specialist care.
