Children's Wales Air Ambulance

It is our aim to serve the whole of Wales, including Wales' youngest patients.

The Children's Wales Air Ambulance is a specialist division of our charity, providing the expert care and transport required for paediatric and neonatal patients. Our fourth helicopter makes us the largest air ambulance in the UK and is used for providing a range of treatments for paediatric patients.

We help around 400 children and babies a year, either on emergency 999 missions or by using our dedicated transfer helicopter.

As well as the equipment you would find on our emergency helicopters, we have specialist equipment dedicated to children.

We have 4 babypods used for emergency missions. They are light enough to quickly install on an aircraft, providing fast protection for infants needing urgent care.

Advanced Flight Incubators

We have 2 Advanced Flight Incubators, costing over £100,000 each, which are used for planned transfers. These sophisticated incubators are used when a vulnerable baby needs to move hospitals for specialist treatment or to be closer to home. They help to keep our tiny patients warm and well oxygenated for their journey.

“The new ventilators are the first of their kind to be used in the UK and will help us to stabilise all patients before they are taken to the nearest appropriate hospital.” - Dr Dindi Gill
