Stephan graduated as a Doctor from Southampton Medical School. Following his surgical training, he travelled to Belize and became a medic for the Trekforce Expeditions. This unconventional working environment is where Stephan’s interest in pre-hospital medicine started.
On his return from Belize, Stephan made the transition to anaesthesia and critical care and he took on a role at University Hospital, Michigan (USA).

Following the completion of specialist training, Stephan settled in North Wales and became a Consultant Anaesthetist at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Amongst his many roles, he provides simulation-based crisis resource management training for medical students.

Stephan has sought opportunities, throughout recent years, to nurture his interest in pre-hospital emergency medicine. Having recognised what attributes were required to be part of this specialist network, he began working as a BASICS doctor and also spent time with Helimed 61 (Wales Air Ambulance Caernarfon helicopter) and London HEMS as a voluntary observer. This has resulted in a permanent position with EMRTS Cymru.
