A café that supports the lifesaving work of the Wales Air Ambulance has been named as the best enterprise café in North Wales for 2018.

This prestigious title was recently awarded to Caffi HEMS by SME News, an outlet for CEOs, leaders and decision-makers in UK-based SMEs. The Best Social Enterprise Award recognises industrious and hardworking businesses and enterprises that have worked arduously to provide the best products and services for their diverse community.

Caffi HEMS, based at Dinas Dinlle near Caernarfon, is run by Wales Air Ambulance with all profits fed back into the Charity and used to fund its helicopter operation. It is open all year round, with volunteers and staff serving seasonal treats. It has also become a popular stop for families, school trips, bikers and dog walkers.

The café’s name is inspired by the Charity’s role in the field of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

Taryn Bennett, Caffi HEMS Manager, said: “This has to be one of North Wales’ best kept secrets, having a panoramic view of the coast. We are situated at the heart of Caernarfon Airport with the opportunity to watch the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter, known as Helimed 61, and other aircraft departing and arriving, all while enjoying delicious local produce.”

Lynne Garlick, WAA North Wales Fundraising Manager, said: “Since the launch of Caffi HEMS in 2015, it has funded the equivalent of over 100 lifesaving missions. Winning this award is a testimony to the hard work of our volunteers and staff who ensure a great experience for our customers.

With its unique environment and friendly atmosphere, the future is looking bright for Caffi HEMS. We hope to spread the message of Wales Air Ambulance far and wide and look forward to welcoming more people to the café in the near future.”

Caffi HEMS is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sundays.
