The annual Welsh Alpaca Show is delighted to have chosen the Wales Air Ambulance as its charity of the show.

The popular event, which will take place on Saturday 22 October at Welshpool Livestock market, will feature over 300 alpacas. The alpacas will be judged on the day by top alpaca members including Julia Corrigan Stuart.

This is the second time the show will take place, after the success of its inaugural show in November 2019, The Welsh Alpaca Show was forced to close the doors like everyone else, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the organisers Susan Myerscough said: “It is the first time we have supported the Charity and because all of us who live in Wales, appreciate the need for the Wales Air Ambulance to serve and help rural communities we believe it will be a very worthy and popular Charity to support.  We hope that the alpacas can help make a difference to the service.”

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £8 million every year to keep the helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Wales Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser, Dougie Bancroft said: “We’re over the moon to have been chosen as the charity of the show. This is a great opportunity for the Wales Air Ambulance to receive much-needed funds, especially during our 21st anniversary. The support of everyone at the Welsh Alpaca Show will help to keep our four aircrafts in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road throughout Wales.”

The Wales Air Ambulance service offers advanced critical care across Wales. It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership between the Wales Air Ambulance Charity and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS Cymru). As a result, the service is consultant-led and is known as a ‘flying emergency department’, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient at the scene of an incident. This includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
