Wales Air Ambulance has thanked retailer Home Bargains who have assisted the Charity in increasing subscriptions to the Lifesaving Lottery.

The retailer kindly permitted canvassers working on behalf of the helicopter charity to canvass at their stores across South Wales throughout 2019, in turn generating vital funds.

Running from January – January, canvassers spoke to thousands of people from Milford Haven to Monmouth, with an average of 250 people signing up to become Lifesaving Lottery members every week.

Wales Air Ambulance Finance Director James Stephens said: “We would like to extend our gratitude to Home Bargains for allowing our canvassers on to their premises to speak to people about the importance of our Lifesaving Lottery. Each year, we rely solely on the Welsh public to raise the £6.5 million required to keep our four helicopters flying.

“The Lifesaving Lottery is a key income stream for us which generates over £4.5m every year thanks to our incredible lottery members. We were really heartened by the number of new members that were recruited at Home Bargains stores across South Wales. In just twelve months 14,000 new members were signed up. It is safe to say, we really have benefitted immensely from being able to spread our message to the customers and would like to take this opportunity to thank Home Bargains for giving us the platform to do so.”

Home Bargains Regional Manager, Wales & South West, Richard Davey said: “We have been more than happy to help support such a great cause over the past 12 months. My stores have really enjoyed having the air ambulance talking with customers and It’s a great pleasure to know we are helping to contribute to the amazing work you do. We look forward to continuing the support throughout 2020.”

Wales Air Ambulance’s Lifesaving Lottery offers members the chance to win a weekly jackpot for just a contribution £1 a week. With prizes totalling £1,500, members have a chance of sweeping the top prize of £1,000 each week.
