Over £900 was raised for the Wales Air Ambulance service at the successful transatlantic concert in St Mary’s Church, Caernarfon when Côr Meibion Caernarfon from Wales teamed up with the Northern Iowa Men’s Glee Club singers from the mid west of the USA.

On Tuesday 12 June, Alwyn Jones, Gwynedd Community Co-ordinator for the Wales Air Ambulance service came to the Caernarfon male voice choir’s weekly rehearsal in Galeri, Caernarfon to thank both choirs for their generosity.  

He said, “The church was packed and £913 was raised - an important and much appreciated contribution towards the £6.5 million we need to collect annually to keep our four helicopters flying throughout Wales.”

He added, “The audience enjoyed outstanding performances by both choirs and they finished by singing Cwm Rhondda together, the American students having learnt the Welsh words of the first verse.”

Alwynne T Jones, Chair of Côr Meibion Caernarfon said, ”When we arrange concerts, we are keen to support local charities and the Northern Iowa Men’s Glee Club singers readily agreed for all the proceeds from our joint concert to be given to the Wales Air Ambulance.”

He added, “This worthy cause is particularly close to our hearts since two members of Côr Meibion Caernarfon have first-hand experience of the excellent service provided by the red helicopters.”
