Wales Air Ambulance has waved a fond farewell to a pillar of the Carmarthenshire community – Clive Scourfield who has retired.

Clive has been the local charity community coordinator for Carmarthenshire since 2014 and leaves the role having helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Prior to his retirement, Clive said: “It has been a pleasure to work for the charity and I have loved every minute of the experience.”

From garden parties to grand concerts and even charity head shaving, Clive has overseen some of the largest and wackiest events in aid of the charity across Carmarthenshire.

Clive added: “In my time at the charity I have seen my fair share of events, some of which will stay with me forever. I fondly remember the Tumble carnival where a young family came up to me with smiles on their faces. It transpired we had airlifted their daughter who had been born prematurely but survived due to our involvement.”

“I will also never forget our passionate volunteers who were the lifeblood of our fundraising across the county. There were some real characters in our group of volunteers, the memories made with them will stay with me for life.”

Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, Mark Stevens said: “We are sorry to see Clive go and would like to thank him for his dedication to the charity over the past four years. He has become a familiar face to many across Carmarthenshire and has helped us spread the good word of Wales Air Ambulance. We wish him well in his retirement.”

Clive leaves the charity handing the baton to the newest member of the fundraising team, Elin Murphy.

Elin Joins the charity from a background in musical theatre. Graduating from London with a degree in music, Elin has performed as the lead singer on board the Queen Mary II and as a backing vocalist for music legend Sir Elton John.

After deciding to move closer to home, Elin married and started a family. Her passion for music continued however by co-founding the Encore stage school.

Now a mother of four, Elin explains her close personal connections to Wales Air Ambulance: “It was through Encore stage school where my association with WAA began. My dear friend and co-partner at Encore Rebecca Evans tragically lost her life after a fatal road traffic collision on the M4 in 2017.

“Wales Air Ambulance flew to her aid but sadly it was too late for Becca. The crews did however save Rebecca’s young son Cian who has made a remarkable recovery despite losing his mum. From that moment we all decided at Encore to hold events in Becca’s memory and raise money for this amazing charity.

“To date, we have raised over twenty thousand pounds for Wales Air Ambulance and were invited to perform in front of HRH Prince of Wales during the official opening of the charity Headquarters in Llanelli.

“After visiting the HQ in Dafen many times over the past year and building up a great relationship with the staff and crew, the fundraising team offered me a job. This was obviously an offer too good to miss and a real honour for me.”

Mark Stevens added: “We would like to Welcome Elin to the team in Dafen, she is a great addition and will undoubtedly build on the existing bonds forged by Clive in the Carmarthenshire community. We are very pleased to have her on board and look forward to working with her.”

Elin added: “Despite the negative situation surrounding my introduction to WAA, I now hope to turn this into a positive by helping to raise important funds for the charity.”
