The Newport Links Golf Club in Pembrokeshire has helped raise money for Wales Air Ambulance after holding a special memorial event.

Members of the golf club raised an incredible £6,000 for the helicopter charity during a sporting fundraiser in memory of the former club captain, Steve Hodges.

The event was sponsored by local businesses and club members with some participating in competing teams and many others simply taking part and contributing to the fundraising.

Richard Bellars, the event organiser, said, “Initially a group of friends decided to hold an event in Steve’s memory, however support for the event has been such a hit that it has become a much-anticipated event in the club calendar”.

“Winners on the day were Johnathan Evans, Rhodri Lorenz, Lee Evans & Kevin Salmon. However, the taking part was far more important as all who attended gave generously to the cause.

“With a sum of over £6,000 raised, the biggest winner on the day was Wales Air Ambulance”.

A presentation of prizes kindly donated by both members and non-members was followed by a raffle & auction.

Wales Air Ambulance fundraising coordinator Steffan Anderson-Thomas said: “We would like to thank Newport links golf club for this incredibly generous donation. The money raised by members of the club will help keep our four helicopters flying across Wales and we’re tremendously grateful for all your efforts”.
