A security guard at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff has been inspired to fundraise for Wales Air Ambulance.

Shane Beasley works as a member of the security team at the UHW and decided to take on a fitness challenge, raising money for the helicopter charity at the same time.

On Sunday, March 25, he tackled the Merthyr Half-Marathon, setting himself a £1,000 target.

Shane said: “Working at the Heath, I get to see a small bit of the amazing work that Wales Air Ambulance does. I felt that by doing the Merthyr Half Marathon I could contribute to this worthwhile cause and help make a small difference.”

Shane and his colleagues are no strangers to supporting Wales Air Ambulance, however, as they completed the Taff Trail in 2015, raising an impressive £3415.84.

Shane added: “I’m not stopping after the Merthyr Half as I plan to tackle the Cardiff Half Marathon in October and hope to increase what we’ve raised thus far for Wales Air Ambulance. The crew does an amazing job and if it wasn’t for their hard work many people might not be here today”.

WAA Community coordinator Catrin Hall said: “Shane is a shining example of how the charity inspires people to do amazing things. Our helicopters are regularly at the UHW, so it’s great to see that we are supported not just by medical staff at the hospital.  We are so grateful for their continued support and wish them well with any future challenges.”
