A business awards event aimed at recognising success amongst women has raised £1,700 for Wales Air Ambulance.

The Best Business Women Awards, which is held annually in London, decided this year to support Wales Air Ambulance through a charity raffle held during the event.

Founded in 2015 by multi-award-winning entrepreneur Debbie Gilbert, the Best Business Women awards cover a wide variety of industries through the twenty-one award categories and recognise and reward female business talent.

In the four years the awards have been running over 3,000 women have entered with yearly attendance figures in excess of 1,200.

During this year’s prestigious awards ceremony, Wales Air Ambulance Chief Executive Officer, Angela Hughes was invited to speak about the charity.

Talking about the event, Angela said: “It was nothing short of an honour to be invited, not only to represent the charity on a national stage but also speak about the lifesaving work we are doing across Wales. It was also a fantastic opportunity to let people know about the amazing work of the Children’s Wales Air Ambulance and how we are saving the lives of some of Wales’ youngest patients.

In 2018, alone Wales Air Ambulance responded to 2828 emergencies, with 367 of them involving paediatric patients. The Children’s Wales Air Ambulance is the charity’s fourth aircraft providing expert care for some of Wales’ youngest patients. The dedicated crews airlift paediatric and neonatal patients to and from specialist hospitals across the UK.

Angela added: “It was wonderful to see such talented women being recognised for their efforts and having an opportunity to celebrate their success. We would like to wish all finalists and winners a huge congratulations and extend our gratitude to the organisers and all who very kindly donated to us during the event. The very generous £1700 raised from the evening will ensure we can continue to fly lifesaving missions all over Wales.”
